Do You Grind Your Teeth While You Sleep?

Pearland dentist teeth whitening

Here is the David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry guide to treating teeth grinding.

Understand
Most teeth grinding will occur while sleeping. Consistent teeth grinding might be suspected with a sore jaw and dull headache in the mornings. Anxiety or stress are not the only reasons grinding may appear. It can also be related to an abnormal bite or missing or crooked teeth.

Visit Dentist
Bruxism is a medical term used for grinding teeth. Bruxism can be identified by Dr. David C. Montz through an oral examination of jaw tenderness and abnormalities in the teeth. Discuss a possible nightguard for teeth grinding.

Get Control
When tooth grinding occurs, the fear is resulting oral damage and pain. Here at David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry we support oral health in many ways. Here are three things that may help:

  1. Control caffeine or alcohol intake as these may increase tooth grinding.
  2. Avoid gum and prohibit pen or pencil chewing. This benefits the jaw as it keeps the jaw from clenching repeatedly.
  3. Allow the jaw to relax; sometimes just setting your tongue between your teeth will help your jaw relax.

Every individual in our community from Houston to Pearland deserves a good night’s sleep as well as a pain-free, headache-free morning.

It’s no problem to come down to our office at 2443 S Galveston Ave , Pearland, Texas 77581 and consult with Dr. Montz about this or any other dental concern. Call 832-895-5120 today to schedule an appointment.

We are committed to healthy, happy patients. A beautiful, confident smile allows full, honest interaction with others. Don’t live with pain. Bad Breath Treatment At David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry

Bad Breath Treatment at David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates - Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry Do you suspect that you have bad breath? I’m David C. Montz of David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry, a full-service dental office in Pearland, Texas. I help our dental patients diagnose and overcome this unpleasant, bothersome, and potentially embarrassing condition.

Halitosis is caused by the bacteria that live on and around your teeth, gums, and tongue. Breath mints and mouthwashes do not cure bad breath, they only mask the symptoms. Proper oral hygiene can cure many cases of bad breath. However, in some cases, bad breath is caused by more serious health matters. Sinus and tonsil infections, acid reflux, ulcers, diabetes, hypoglycemia, kidney malfunction, and eating disorders are just some of the troubles that can cause bad breath.

If you have bad breath, the first thing to do is make sure you are cleaning your teeth, gums, and tongue thoroughly. This does not mean you should brush as long and forcefully as possible. Brushing too vigorously is harmful to gums and contributes to gum recession. At David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry, we help patients of all ages learn safe and effective brushing, flossing, and tongue cleaning methods.

And don’t forget regular professional cleanings. Our friendly dental hygienists are trained in the latest and most effective deep-cleaning procedures. Your teeth feel so good after being cleaned professionally!

To make an appointment for an exam, cleaning, or consultation, call 832-895-5120. Your teeth are too essential to neglect.

Be Wise About Your Wisdom Teeth, Houston

Be Wise About Your Wisdom Teeth, Houston

Hi, I’m Dr. David C. Montz, and today in the Pearland dental blog we will be discussing the often misunderstood subject of wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth are sometimes called the third molars because they are even farther back in the mouth than the two sets of regular molars we all have. These four teeth usually erupt when a person is eighteen or nineteen.

Many dentists in the Friendswood, Alvin, and Manvel area recommend that wisdom teeth be removed to prevent misplacement in the mouth.

If a wisdom tooth doesn’t fully erupt, it may cause an opening in the gums that can attract bacteria and become infected. Some wisdom teeth are so misplaced that they can actually cause problems with the jaw bone. Both of these conditions can cause severe pain.

If you are in the Houston area and are wondering if your wisdom teeth need to be removed, call us today at 832-895-5120 to schedule an appointment. We can assess the condition and placement of your wisdom teeth and discuss a treatment plan.

We can also answer any questions you have about smile makeovers. Because there are so many quick and effective cosmetic dentistry procedures available, such as invisible braces, veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants, anyone in Houston can have a perfect smile. I love giving my Pearland patients the smiles they’ve always wanted.

Thanks for visiting the Pearland dental blog, and keep David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry in mind for your dental needs. We offer:

sedation dentistry
CEREC dental crowns
porcelain veneers
teeth whitening

We hope to see you soon!

Into The Thick Of It – The Skinny On Toothpaste

Manvel cosmetic dental and tooth implants

Welcome to our blog, Pearland! I’m happy about how much I have to share with you about toothpaste and oral hygiene in the short time we have together. Enjoy!

Why does toothpaste seem gritty?
The abrasive nature of toothpaste is to aid in removing dental plaque and food from the surface of the teeth. Rough brushing becomes unnecessary for Pearland dental patients when the abrasives in the toothpaste can snag the mouth’s lingering food particles and polish the enamel at the same time.

What’s with the strong minty options?
Minty flavorants are used to encourage continued use of the paste and to freshen breath. However, dynamic toothpaste alone is not designed to cure halitosis (bad breath) for Pearland men and women affected. While unflavored toothpastes exist, the world has also seen such flavors as peanut butter, iced tea and ginger. To treat halitosis it is best to avoid periodontal disease and to also brush bacteria from far back on the tongue. Removing the source is important and more effective than covering it up with minty flavorings.

What is Fluoride’s place in a toothpaste?
Fluoride occurs in small amounts in plants, animals, and some natural water sources. It is championed by health-conscious Houston residents for preventing tooth decay and controlling gingivitis. Fluoride-containing compounds are present in many toothpastes to add another vital dimension to the oral hygiene regimen for preventing decay.

How are toothpaste and flossing related?

Flossing regularly in conjunction with toothbrushing helps with averting bacterial growth, tooth decay and plaque buildup by simply removing chunks of food or substances that could break down the tooth.

Finally, what about the relationship between toothpaste and mouthwash?
The use of mouthwash cannot replace regular brushing and flossing. Mouthwash simply adds yet another effective layer of defense against bacterial growth in the mouth.

Dr. David C. Montz and the staff at David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry want to encourage a committed, consistent approach to dental hygiene.

5 Tips For Manvel Residents With Mouth Sores

Prevent Mouth Sores Friendswood

Hi. I’m Dr. David C. Montz. When my Friendswood and Alvin area patients get mouth sores, I advise them to evaluate what they’re eating and make some changes. By following these tips, you too can avoid the discomfort of eating and help to increase the speed of healing.

1. Eat soft or pureed foods. Don’t worry, you won’t have to eat baby food – plenty of adult dishes fit the bill:

cream soups
yogurt
hot cereal
mashed potatoes
puddings

2. Keep your meals bland for a while. I know it’s no fun, but watch out for overly spicy, tart, salty or acidic foods while you have a mouth sore.

3. Also, keep it cool. Eat only food that is at room temperature or is served chilled.

4. Use a straw so that whatever you are drinking can bypass the mouth sore altogether.

5. Try to moisten dry foods. This can be done by adding sauces, dressings, and gravies to your meals.

I hope that these suggestions will help you the next time you suffer from a mouth sore. If you are looking for a dentist in the Houston area, consider my practice, David C. Correcting Severe Dental Problems In Pearland

Correcting Severe Dental Problems in Pearland Each separate restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedure performed in Houston can address a specific dental problem. For example, a porcelain veneer can correct the surface of a tooth that is discolored or slightly misshapen. Dental bonding can fill a small chip in an otherwise healthy tooth.

Some Pearland dental problems are more extensive and require a combination of procedures. Crown restoration combined with soft tissue grafts can restore a severely decayed tooth with the root exposed. A bone graft and dental implant can restore a missing tooth in an area where the jaw bone has receded. Orthodontia followed by tooth bleaching totally transforms a smile by straightening and whitening.

What is the difference between tooth bleaching and whitening? Whitening is the term for procedures which remove surface stains to restore the degree of natural lightness. Bleaching goes even further by lightening teeth beyond their natural shade. That’s right: you don’t have to resign yourself to yellow teeth even if they have been that way your whole life! The natural shade of your teeth, by the way, like your skin and hair color, is determined by genetics.

Some Pearland smiles have been gleaming for years by regular whitening. You can maintain the whiteness of your teeth just as you maintain your fitness level. (Of course it is a lot easier to make a quick visit to your Pearland dentist once a year for whitening touch-ups than sweating in a gym several times a week!)

We live in an age where severe dental problems can be permanently corrected. You don’t have to participate in a TV makeover show in Hollywood to access these premium cosmetic dental procedures. They are available right here in Pearland, Friendswood and Alvin. David C. Montz has the same advanced training and extensive experience as the dentists who keep the smiles of famous actors and musicians camera-ready.

Schedule a consultation at David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry to discover the perfect combination of procedures to achieve your ultimate smile. Our phone number is 832-895-5120.

Brush Up On Your Cavity Basics, Houston

Brush Up On Your Cavity Basics Houston

Residents of Friendswood and Pearland use the word ‘cavity’ often when discussing oral health practices. Along with teeth whitening and other cosmetic dentistry procedures, cavities are a hot topic.

At David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry we think it’s great that people in the Houston area are so conscious of their teeth, and we feel that having a better understanding of exactly what a cavity is will help them take better care of their pearly whites.

Cavities can also be called caries or tooth decay. When a tooth is permanently damaged in the hard surface, tiny openings occur. These little holes are cavities. Different factors that contribute to tooth decay are:

Frequent eating
Consuming sugary beverages
Oral bacteria
Insufficient tooth brushing and flossing

Cavities may get so bad that you will see pits or holes in your teeth, but symptoms may be more subtle, such as sensitivity, pain when biting, or a toothache. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should call your Friendswood, Alvin, or Manvel dentist today for an appointment.

If you are in the market for quality dental care in the Pearland area, give David C. Montz DDS, PA & Associates – Family, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry a call. We have been treating dental patients in and around Houston since 1997. We can also answer any questions you have about cosmetic dentistry procedures such as veneers and dental implants.

We hope to hear from you soon!
