No Need to Feel Scared of the Dentist
Dental anxiety is a common apprehension many individuals face, often deterring them from seeking essential dental care. It can stem from past unpleasant experiences, fear of pain, or even the sounds and sensations of dental instruments.
Sedation dentistry provides a transformative solution to this challenge. It employs various sedative techniques, from mild relaxants to deeper sedation, ensuring patients feel calm and relaxed throughout their treatment. This approach alleviates anxiety and facilitates a more comfortable and efficient procedure. With sedation dentistry, patients can overcome their fears and receive the necessary dental care for optimal oral health.

Laughing Gas
Laughing gas is a staple sedation dentistry technique used in dental offices for over 100 years. At our office, we begin by placing a comfortable breathing mask over your nose. Once the laughing gas is dispensed and you start breathing it in, you will relax in just a minute or two.
Laughing gas is a light sedation, so once your treatment is complete, there are no after effects. You can even drive yourself home when the procedure is done.
Oral Conscious Sedation
If you are anxious about dental work and need an extensive procedure, we might recommend oral conscious sedation. Our Pearland dental professionals want you to feel at ease and will prescribe a sedative, if necessary, that you’ll take prior to your dental visit.
Most patients will stay awake enough that we can communicate with your during your procedure, but you likely won’t remember the experience. Because this medication takes time to exit the bloodstream, you should have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment.
IV Sedation
At our Pearland and Friendswood sedation dentistry practices, we offer IV sedation for patients who deal with severe dental phobias, are medically compromised, or want to have multiple treatments done in one visit. With IV sedation, our sedation dentists can safely and gently put you in a deep state of relaxation for your full treatment. You may even relax deep enough to fall asleep!
As with oral conscious sedation, we ask that you have someone available to drive you home after your appointment.
Additionally, we have also created a website just for sedation dentistry, DentalSedationHouston.com. There you can find answers to your sedation dentistry questions and concerns, such as:
- What is sedation dentistry?
- How does dental sedation work?
- What types of dental sedation are available at Montz & Maher Dental Group?
- Is sedation dentistry right for me?
And several other commonly asked questions about dental sedation.
